My New Book Review Format
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
So, insomnia is keeping me in her horrible grasp once again tonight (most likely will have another 48-hour "day") and I have been thinking about how I review books, or more accurately, how I don't review books. Have you guys noticed this? Like, there are very few legitimate reviews on my Goodreads or my blog. Fangirl is one of them, of course, I always mention that as my best book review. But if you look at my wrap-ups, most of what I say is akin to "it was good, I enjoyed this" or "it wasn't really for me" or something even more vague.
I have decided that this is unacceptable, especially since I want to grow as a BookTuber and a book reviewer. So, here is my new review routine, at least for the foreseeable future.
When I finish a book, I will:
- Have a short non-spoiler summary of the book
- My star rating and initial thoughts of the book
- At least 3 pros of the book (spoilery)
- At least 3 cons of the book (spoilery)
- Any additional thoughts (if it reminded me of anything, favorite moments/characters, etc.)
Hopefully this format will help me get used to critically reading and reviewing books. I readily admit that I am not a very harsh reviewer, but I won't shy away from expressing my opinion if I didn't enjoy something. This format will be for all of the books I read, excluding DNF's, since I cannot review that book as a whole. And yes, even if it is a rant review, I will still have the 3 pros and cons (though it's possible there will be more cons).
This review regimen will start once I finish my current read, The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker. Also, this will change up how my wrap-ups will be. Instead of having the Goodreads Review section of my wrap-ups, I will link the review on this blog (as well as link the reviews to the Goodreads pages of the books in question). My final thoughts will still be there however, so don't think I'm getting rid of that.
Okay, I think that is all I have for today. I'm probably going to end up re-posting my Fangirl review since it was originally on my first website and the format didn't really transfer very well.
Until next time!
