Gushing About Charlotte Holmes | Reading Update 4.4.19

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

So, I'm a bit of an emotional mess. Why, you may ask? Because last night I finished A Question of Holmes by Brittany Cavallaro.

If you don't know about this series, I'm pretty sure this is the first blog post of mine that you're reading, so hi! My name is AllyEm, and I make weekly booktube videos and blog posts. Also, I'm sure you don't know about the queen of Charlotte Holmes herself, Rocky from BlondeWithABook (another booktube channel). Here's her interview with the author herself from last year:

So, back to A Question of Holmes. This is the last book in the Charlotte Holmes series, which is a "retelling" of the classic Sherlock Holmes books. In this series, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson were real people, and now their great-great-great grandchildren, Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson, are following in their footsteps.

I discovered this series--thanks to Rocky--at the end of last year. And now I'm fairly certain I'm Charlotte Holmes trash. Oh well!

Of course the review I posted for A Question of Holmes on Goodreads will be in my monthly wrap-up, but I can say that I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars, which is definitely the lowest star rating I have given to a Charlotte Holmes book, but it was still phenomenal. I explain why I docked a star in my review.

If I took my time after I finished this book, I definitely would have had a bit of a book hangover, but I was so excited to keep reading, mainly because I wasn't quite tired yet and it was only 11 at night.

So I looked at my meager bookcase in my dorm and I decided to pick up The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, the second book in the Mistborn trilogy. I've only read about 100 pages so far, but I'm loving it, just as I loved The Final Empire

This is the edition I own. Personally I think these are the best editions, they're the ones that Barnes and Noble sell in their YA sections, and they aren't mass market paperback, which I kind of really despise? Mass market paperbacks are horrible. At least these editions feel like actual books, heavy and floppy and durable.

Okay, coming off of that tangent....

I think that's all I have for you today. Along with my typical reading habits, I'm also on a Bible-reading plan with one of my friends, so I'm reading a lot more than I have been the past couple months, but it's the Bible so it's not in the same sort of type of reading. So far, I've read the books of Exodus, John, and Matthew. But I'm not going to dwell too much on my Bible reading, just because I don't want to shove my religion down your throats, as well as the fact that you're here for my fantasy and fiction readings and not my Bible readings.

Okay, that's all for now. Until next time!
