Reading 3 Books and I'm Bored by All of Them | Reading Update 8.27.21

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

It's been a while since I've done a reading update, mainly because I haven't had anything super interesting to talk about enough to warrant an entire blog post. And really, I still don't have a ton to say, but I felt the urge to write and I refuse to deny myself when I actually feel inspiration.

As the title of today's post says, I'm currently in the middle of three books, and yet I feel super slumpy. It's not any of the books' faults, in fact two of the three are super anticipated reads of mine, and the other just came out last month and peaked my interest when I read the synopsis. It's just that I don't really want to read right now. Which is frustrating of course, but even more so because two of the books are library copies, and there are a lot of people waiting for both, which means I can't renew them if I run out of time. And I am definitely running out of time.

The third book is a physical copy I own, and I'm more than half-way through with it, but it's a nonfiction that just really isn't inspiring me at the moment. Even though it's by one of my favorite authors. I just can't find the want to pick it back up. But I hate more than anything leaving books unfinished by the end of the month, and I've only got four days left. Can I finish these books in those four days? I guess we'll see.

Oh, I guess I should probably tell you what books I'm reading, huh?

The physical book is The Valkyries by Paulo Coelho. It follows Paulo himself and his wife Christine as they journey to the Mojave desert in order to communicate with their guardian angels. It is extremely philosophical and a bit like magical realism, but it's a true story, so I'm not quite sure where to draw the line between nonfiction and fiction. Currently, I have it listed as nonfiction.

Next is The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne. I was highly anticipating this book all year, as it is a story inspired by Norse folklore and legend. In a land where gods are long dead after a gruesome battle years ago, three strangers embark on a quest, each for their own reasons, but ultimately to save the world they've come to love. Okay, that's honestly not the best description for this book, but I didn't feel like looking up the proper summary, so there you go. I'm only a quarter of the way through this book, and it's due in six days, so I don't think I'll be able to finish this one on time. However, this book really isn't doing anything for me, so I might just DNF and be done with it. I think this book is the reason I'm falling into a slump.

The last book I'm reading is The Coming Storm by Regina M. Hansen. It's a YA historical fantasy set in the 1950s at Prince Edward Island, Canada (where Anne of Green Gables is also set). It follows a young girl who has a connection to ghosts as she tries to unravel the supernatural mysteries of PEI. It's very haunting and atmospheric. I am enjoying it a degree more than the other two, but I still have no real motivation to pick it up. I'm really hoping I'll snap out of this funk soon and then fly through this book, because I can see myself really liking it.

Well I think that's all I have for today. You'll see in a few days in my August wrap-up if I managed to complete all of these books or not. Wish me luck to do so!

Until next time!
