February Wrap-Up 2019
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
Oh, how quickly February has gone by. I mean, I know it's the shortest month of the year, but it still surprises me when it flies by.
In terms of books, I've had a very good reading month! I managed to read nine books this month, which considering I am a full time student and a sorority woman, that's pretty awesome. Not up to my usual non-working standard of fifteen, but still impressive. And especially since I didn't pick up a book until the 10th, I believe, so really it was only about 18 days which I read these nine books.
I'm still working on Edith Hamilton's Mythology, and I've come to the conclusion that this book will take me until the end of the semester to finish. There are other works that take precedent and plus, it's hard to get through. Speaking as someone who is a hoe for mythology, this book is so boring! I've never found a Greek anthology so dry before. I might even DNF it, which is unreal? Like, I never would have expected to dislike a mythology collection.
Anyway, let's get into the books I read in February.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Avatar: The Last Airbender comics (The Promise, The Rift, The Search, North and South, and Smoke and Shadow) by Gene Luen Yang - 5 stars (all)
Page count - 1,200 pages (combined)
Read from - Feb. 9 to Feb. 10
Goodreads Review (if applicable) - N/A
Final thoughts - I absolutely loved these additions to one of my favorite TV worlds and series. These comics brought on such a nostalgia factor for me. Plus, my Kataang ass was living for all of the adorableness that was their relationship. I thought that it was very well done, all of it.
2. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake - 4 stars
Page count - 398 pages
Read from - Feb. 10 to Feb. 11
Goodreads Review (if applicable) - I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I found it very hard to decide which of the queens I wanted to win. And the ending definitely made me reevaluate my original thoughts. Though, I think Katharine might be my favorite.
The writing was very fun and it was a quick read, I managed to finish the last 70% within a two hour period (I had started it the night before). I’m looking forward to reading the sequel.
“Fair value is subjective, not a fixed price.”
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I didn’t think I was going to love this book THIS MUCH BUT I DO. Is it too early to say this is the best book of the year? It’s certainly the best book I’ve read so far this year. AAAHHH. I’m SO happy I picked this up!!
So many twists and turns and reveals and EMOTIONS I don’t even know how I feel! All of this book has been incredible. I don’t know why it took me so long to pick it up. I’m really angry that I don’t have the second book on hand (it’s at home and I’m at school) because I want to read it NOW.
In all seriousness though, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I NEED ALL THE ANSWERS TO THE MYSTERY. This is why I prefer standalone mysteries because I don’t have to worry about CLIFFHANGERS.
Maureen Johnson you will be the death of me.

Final thoughts - I've since tried to find the sequel in the bookstores around me, and they have the first one and the third one, BUT NOT THE SECOND ONE. It's really bothering me. Upon further reflecting I have decided that this is a 4 star read instead of a 4.5, which is the initial rating I gave on Goodreads.
3. In An Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire - 5 stars
Page count - 203 pages
Read from - Feb. 14 to Feb. 18
Goodreads Review (if applicable) - I always love Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children series, but I think this one might just be my favorite (so far, as the series isn’t over yet). Lundy’s story is one that I feel will stay with me for the rest of my life. The concepts of fair value and consequences are ones that everyone needs to learn and know. I will leave you with my favorite quote from this book:
“Fair value is subjective, not a fixed price.”
Final thoughts - I listened to this via audiobook, which is why it took so long for me to get through. Also, I loved the tie-in with Every Heart a Doorway and how things came full circle from that book to this one, even though this isn't the last book in the series.
4. Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson - 5 stars
Page count - 672 pages
Read from - Feb. 13 to Feb. 24
Goodreads Review (if applicable) - AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Final thoughts - I STILL don't have the second book. I'm a wreck basically.
5. The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson - 5 stars
Page count - 384 pages
Read from - Feb. 24 to Feb. 27
Goodreads Review (if applicable) - GOD DAMMIT WITH THE CLIFFHANGERS. THE STUPID FREAKING CLIFFHANGERS. THE ANXIETYYYYY
Final thoughts - I'm still trying to get over the book hangover that this left me with. It's been a time. Please send chocolate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total page count - 2,857 pages
Favorite book of the month - Mistborn
Least favorite book - Three Dark Crowns
Alright, there you have it! A very high star month, I'm fairly happy with how this February turned out. March I only have one goal: to read and complete The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. Since it's a 900 page book, I think that's a pretty decent goal.
Until next time!
