The Anti-TBR Tag
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
I haven't done a tag in a hot minute so today I'll be doing the Anti-TBR tag created by Nicole & Her Books. You guys probably don't know but I absolutely love the more negative book tags out there, like the Nope Book Tag or the No Disclaimers Tag. I just think they're so much fun to both do and watch/read. Since the book community is all about hyping books up and talking about the books we're reading or anticipating, I think it's refreshing to talk about the books you will never read or buy every once in a while.
Okay, let's get started!
---
1. A popular book everyone loves but you have no interest in reading
There are so many books I could use for this question, but I'll go with Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. Thanks to friends that know my triggers, they informed me that this book literally begins with a hanging, and that is my biggest trigger, so if that is how the book is going to start I just have no interest in reading this at all. Plus I've basically already heard the plot and a lot of other problematic things about this series in general so I really don't see any need to read it for myself.
2. A classic book or author you have no interest in reading
I've already had to read a lot of classics that I would have never picked up otherwise because of school, but I suppose I'll go with Jane Austen for this. I just...don't care? God that sounds so bad, ha. But honestly, I don't care about her books. I don't care about the movies or stories or anything. I recognize that Austen did a lot for women authors etc etc but yeah, I'm good.
3. A problematic author whose books you don't want to read
Robert Galbraith/J.K. Rowling. I suppose you could say I'm cheating because I've read the Harry Potter series, but her newer books and everyone under her pen-name can stay ten feet away from me. I have no interest in giving her more money or clout.
4. An author you've read a couple of books from and decided that they're not for you
Neil Gaiman. I've read three books by him and I just don't enjoy his writing style. Good Omens was too campy and Coraline was just creepy to be creepy. The only book I kind of enjoyed was Norse Mythology, and it's not even original to him, so does that even count? Good on him for writing so much, but I don't really think he needs my support, he's clearly doing just fine.
5. A genre you have no interest in or tried and couldn't get into
I'll go with romance for this. I'm sure this comes as no surprise since I'm so vocal about it, but I just can't stand romance in novels. I get so annoyed by romance in fantasy or contemporary, so I doubt I'll enjoy it when it's the main focal point. The only exception to this is if it's an LGBT+ romance. I'll read it for the gays. But other than that, I prefer zero romance. That's what I have fan-fiction for.
6. A book you have bought but will never read (can be a book you've already unhauled)
I unhaul books regularly, as I have a limited amount of shelf-space and my tastes and preferences are always changing. So, I'm not sure which books I've gotten rid of that I didn't actually read, but I know that I've done that.
Oh! I actually unhauled Thunderhead by Neal Schusterman without having read it. I read Scythe and really enjoyed it, but then I lost interest in the series after two years passing and never reading the sequel, and I realized I probably will never pick it up.
7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started and DNF'd
Another question that I have several answers to. I'll pick the latter half of the question to answer: I DNF'd The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani after reading one and a half books. I found this series so odd and slightly problematic. It was both misogynistic and misandrynistic at the same time and I have no idea how the author managed to do that. It took classic fairytales and tried to modernize them but just made a huge mess of things. No thank you.
8. A new release you have no interest in reading
Hmmm let's see...I don't want to pick sequels of series I don't want to read, because that just seems redundant. I'll go with Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Everyone and their mother loves this author so much and I just don't care, again. I've found that I like historical fiction a lot more than I thought I did, but again, her books just don't spark any interest in me. I do know someone who might like this upcoming book though, so I'll be sure to mention it to her when it is released.

Alright, that is the Anti-TBR tag. I hope you guys enjoyed reading my answers, it was fun to come up with them. I'm planning on doing a "Popular Books I'll Never Read" post at some point so you'll get even more of these kinds of answers, so be on the lookout for that.
Until next time!
