Anime I'm Excited for in 2021 | Manga Mondays

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

2020 hit the anime industry hard, as it did for pretty much everything. A lot of movies and seasons of shows were pushed back until this year.

Compared to some people, I don't watch a whole lot of anime, and what I do watch is older and already completed. However, there are a few shows and movies that I'm eagerly waiting on, so I thought I'd go through all the anime that I'm looking forward to in the year 2021.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season - Released Dec. 6, 2020

I've talked about Attack on Titan a lot on this blog, and we've got the final arcs happening. Technically it's already started--we're about six episodes into the season already. I can't wait to see how the animators will choose to animate certain scenes. I'm completely caught up with the manga, so I won't be surprised by any of the twists and turns this season will bring, but I'm still excited to see it all come to life.

The Promised Neverland: Season Two - Released Jan. 6, 2021

I love The Promised Neverland so much! Honestly, I think this show is the definition of perfect pacing. The set-up is only one episode long, but it doesn't feel rushed or anything like that. I am a little concerned on how much they'll be squeezing into this season based on the OP sequence, but I have faith in the studio creators. Again, The Promised Neverland is complete, so there's no chance of the animators going off on their own with an independent storyline, which I appreciate. There's only one episode out so far, but they'll be coming out weekly from now on.

My Hero Academia: Season Five - Release Date Mar. 27, 2021

Ah yes, my all time favorite anime! Maybe? I don't know, I love so many, I'm not sure if I can truly make such a bold claim as that. But it's for sure up there, no doubt about it. I'm especially excited about this arc that season 5 is covering, because it's bringing back one of my favorite characters, Shinsou Hitoshi! He's wonderful, honestly. I mean, my all-time favorite character in MHA will always be Todoroki Shouto, but Shinsou holds a special place in my heart for sure.

Fruits Basket: The Final Season - Release Date TBA

I could probably make arguments that this is my favorite anime, too. It's definitely my favorite manga, and a lot of that has to do with nostalgia, since I first read this series when I was eight or so. I legit cried when it was announced back in 2018 that Fruits Basket was getting a rebooted anime, since the 2003 anime...left something to be desired, let's just say. But this new and improved anime not only is following the manga properly, but is actually following through with the full story. I can't wait to see my favorite panel in the entire manga get animated! I have no doubt I'm going to cry my eyes out.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train - Release Date TBA

This was originally supposed to come out last October, but obviously the pandemic hit and production came to a standstill. I appreciate that the studio in charge of Demon Slayer KNY is turning this arc into it's own movie, because it's not long enough to warrant it's own season, but it's too long for a single arc of a season. There is a lot of important lore and character development that happens during this arc, though, so I hope the movie will manage to at least do some of it properly. (I say "properly" but of course I only mean through my eyes, everyone will probably have differing opinions about the movie idea.)

My Hero Academia: Movie Three - Release Date TBA

We're just getting so much MHA content this year, it makes me ridiculously happy. We don't know hardly anything about the third movie, only that it's focused around our Wonder Trio: Bakugo, Midoriya, and Todoroki. I'm assuming it's about their internship later on in the manga, but I don't know for sure. I'm hoping that the movie will be released in American theaters again like the previous movie, so I can go see it with Angela and fangirl obsessively. You know, like one does.

Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence Movie - Release Date TBA

Okay, this last one is a bit of a stretch, because I don't actually know if this movie will be coming out this year or the next. But I am speaking it into the universe that it'll be released this year, because we in the YOI fandom have been (not so) patiently waiting for this movie to come out for years. We did recently get a trailer for it, and so we know the movie will follow Viktor as he becomes the junior world champion in men's figure skating. I love the visuals of this anime, the way the characters move while skating is so incredible. I understand why it takes so long to make this anime, since the animators have to meticulously study figure skaters in order to get the movements just right, but still. I'm kind of sick of waiting and I want more Viktor!

Okay, that's all the anime that I'm personally invested in that will be coming out this year. If you want the complete list, you can find it here. If you're an anime watcher, I hope there is something coming out this year to keep you invested!

Until next time!
