Manga Mondays #2: Heroes Rising!
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
So, this past week was pretty big in the anime world, if you're a My Hero Academia fan. The newest MHA movie, Heroes Rising, hit theaters across the globe for this week and this week only!
I managed to snag a ticket for a showing yesterday, and went along with Angela and her boyfriend Jacob. We found it kind of funny, because years ago, it was Jacob that got Angela into MHA, and then Angela got me into it, and it all came full circle. It was kind of awesome going to theater and seeing so many people that love the same thing you do (though, the three of us were definitely outside the target age range--most of the people there were kids being chaperoned by their parents). I even saw a young girl cosplaying as Aizawa! I tell you, that made my day. I want to go to Comic-Con or Ani-Con so badly so I can see more of that kind of enthusiasm.
So, the movie.
It follows an independent timeline from the manga/anime, where Class 1-A is preforming a goodwill work study on Nabu Island, as their local hero had officially retired and no longer could keep the peace on their own. It's a pretty routine gig for the summer, until a villain known as Nine shows up and threatens everything on the island, including the quirk of a little boy who had taken a liking to Midoriya's heroics. So now it's up to Class 1-A to defeat this villain and his team, with no backup, no support, and no way to call for help.
This movie just blew me away. You guys know that I'm ridiculously obsessed with MHA, so seeing all of my favorite characters on the big screen was just so overwhelming. I won't go into spoilers in case some of you are planning to see the movie for yourselves, but just know that it truly puts everything on the line.
I read somewhere that Horikoshi had planned for this to be the original ending of the series, and while it was incredible, I would've probably died if that's how the manga would have ended. Thankfully Horikoshi changed his mind about that.
I can't wait to watch it again once it's dubbed--I do love the subbed anime but it's easy to miss a lot because your eyes are constantly flicking down to the subtitles to read what the characters are saying.
I think that's all I have for this week's Manga Monday. I hope that you all get to experience Heroes Rising for yourselves if you're MHA fans!
Until next time!
