May 2019 Reading Wrap-Up

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

It's that time again, to talk to you guys about the books I read during the month of May. It was an amazing reading month for me: I read a grand total of 19 books! I haven't had a good of reading month since last July, I think. I also read a pretty wide variety of books, so this was one interesting month, that's for sure! Okay, let's get started.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake: 5 stars (ONE DAY READ)
Page count: 316 pages
Read: May 3
Review: https://allyemreads.blogspot.com/2019/05/anna-dressed-in-blood-review.html
Final thoughts: I don't think I'm going to read the sequel, but I wouldn't mind reading this again.

2. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones: 3 stars
Page count: 329 pages
Read from: Apr. 13 to May 13
No review available
Final thoughts: Yes, yes I finally finished it! I think the reason the rating is so low is because it took forever and a day for me to read this book. One day I'll go back and re-read it and then maybe I can actually have a proper review and rating.

3. The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman: 5 stars
Page count: 368 pages
Read from: May 9 to May 16
Review: https://allyemreads.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-devouring-gray-review.html
Final thoughts: I cannot wait for the sequel!! This will no doubt be one of my favorite books of 2019, possibly of all-time. The chaotic bisexual energy gives me life.

4. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton: 2.5 stars
Page count: 399 pages
Read from: May 4 to May 15
No review available
Final thoughts: Eh. There were definitely parts of the book I liked more than the movie, but this book really did not age well. Yes, it was revolutionary when it came out, but I was less than impressed.

5. The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees: 3.5 stars
Page count: 304 pages
Read from: May 10 to May 13
No review available
Final thoughts: This being one of my most anticipated reads of 2019, I didn't think it lived quite all the way up to my expectations. I kept getting a really weird sense of deja vu while reading, too, like I had read a story similar to this before.

6. Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy: 4 stars
Page count: 336 pages
Read from: May 11 to May 16
No review available
Final thoughts: I absolutely loved this book, and I thought for sure I did a review of it on my blog? I guess not, and I'm pretty surprised by that. Oh well, I'll do one eventually (I hope).

7. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab: 5 stars (REREAD)
Page count: 512 pages
Read from: May 13 to May 14
No review available
Final thoughts: Since this is a reread for me, I didn't write a review on it, same with the third book. I just wanted to delve back into this world.

8. A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab: 5 stars (REREAD)
Page count: 624 pages
Read from: May 21 to May 23
No review available
Final thoughts: For some reason, this book is simultaneously my favorite and least favorite in the series. I think it's because Holland is my least favorite character (I know, shocking) and we get a lot of him in this book, but the developments of Kell, Rhy, Lila, and Alucard make me cry ugly tears.

9. Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: 5 stars (ONE DAY READ)
Page count: 423 pages
Read: May 16
Review (or gush, really): https://allyemreads.blogspot.com/2019/05/red-white-royal-blue-gush.html
Final thoughts: Definitely my favorite contemporary that I've read so far. Surpasses Fangirl by eons.

10-15. Fullmetal Alchemist, vol. 1-6 by Hirome Arkawa: 4 stars (ONE DAY READS)
Total page count: 1,152 pages
Read: May 20, May 23
No review available
Final thoughts: My friend has the entire Fullmetal Alchemist manga collection so she graciously lent me the first six volumes to read. Yeah, I finished them all within a couple hours. We're also buddy-watching the anime together (Brotherhood, not the original).

16. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: 3 stars (ONE DAY READ)
Page count: 332 pages
Read: May 22
No review available
Final thoughts: Eh, I only read this because I wanted to see the difference between this and the movie. It’s not great, though I’m sure if I read this during the twilight era I would have enjoyed it a lot more. This was just for fun, so I'm not going to review it.

17. Geekerella by Ashley Poston: 3 stars
Page count: 320 pages
Read from: May 24 to May 27
Review: https://allyemreads.blogspot.com/2019/05/geekerella-review.html
Final thoughts: I'm not going to read the companion novel for this, I'd just seen a lot of people had really liked this book and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

18. One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake: 4 stars
Page count: 464 pages
Read from: May 28 to May 31
No review available
Final thoughts: Since I just finished this yesterday, I haven't had the chance to review it. However I think I'm going to review the series as a whole instead of doing each individual book.

19. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: 5 stars (REREAD)
Page count: 422 pages
Read from: May 29 to May 31
No review available
Final thoughts: Again, since this was a reread for me I'm not going to review it, since my reviews are based on my initial thoughts of a book.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total page count: 6,301 pages
Favorite book of May: The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
Least favorite book of May: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
DNF'd books this month: Ghostland: An American History of Haunted Places by Colin Dickey
Unfinished books this month: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, that's it! Whew, that took a while. I can't believe I read over 6,000 pages this month! Insane! I hope that June is just as fruitful, that would be so awesome. Especially if I don't reread anything, that means that I'll be cutting my TBR down quite a notch. Also, I want to be able to do more book reviews in June. Going through my wrap-up made me realize just how many books I didn't review. I'm a little ashamed, not gonna lie.

Until next time!
