Reading Update 5.24.19
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
So, I've been on a serious reading kick the past couple of weeks. I don't know why exactly, but I am certainly not complaining. After I finished the beauty that was Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, I was able to borrow Fullmetal Alchemist, volumes 1-6, from my sorority twin (if I ever say "my twin" in this blog, she is who I mean. I don't actually have a twin).
I also finished up A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab, which was a re-read for me (for the third time, I believe), so I won't be doing a review for that. Maybe one day I'll do one massive review for the series, or hell, maybe even all of Schwab's books, but that won't happen for a while.
I took a little break from reading and decided to watch the Vampire Academy adaptation, but of course, once I did I realized that I had never actually read the books, so lo and behold I rented an e-book of the first book from Libby, and read that in a day. It was about as much as I expected, a trashy 2000s teen vampire novel, circa Twilight and the House of Night series. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my thing. Although I'm sure if I read it when I was twelve I would've thoroughly enjoyed it. But being a 21-year-old reading it for the first time? Not my cup of tea. The romance, especially. Like...it's illegal? However I'm pretty sure the romance in the House of Night series was of a similar age gap, and I was obsessed with that romance when I was younger, so again it's literally just a matter of age.
I went to the library and picked up a ton of books. My library is doing away with overdue fines, which I find pretty interesting, actually. I'm not entirely sure how they're going to keep people responsible for returning the books, but who knows? Maybe it might encourage more people to actually come to the library, now that they don't have to worry about overdue fines. All I know is, you can still check out up to 50 books at a time, and I regularly grab 10-12 books whenever I go.
I'm still working on The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson, but I'm also reading Geekerella by Ashley Poston. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't tend to like contemporaries, and this one is full of pop-culture references, which I tend to despise. I know that I'm liking Darien's POV more than Danielle's at this point, but I'm only about 80 pages in. So far, I'm feeling pretty indifferent about it, to be completely honest. I don't know if I'll end up DNFing it or what. I do like that the author didn't use an established fandom as the main focus, however. As much as I love Star Trek (and I do, it's freaking phenomenal), I don't think I would've been able to handle reading an entire book about people geeking out over the Federation. That's just me.
Okay, I think that's all I have for now. I'm doing some wedding planning with my friend (I'm a bridesmaid) but I have this week's video uploading in the background. I have no idea if it will actually finish, but one can hope. If it does end up getting uploaded today, I'll make sure to do a second post today with the link.
Until next time!
