Things are Changing | Reading Update 8.12.23
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
It's been a while since I've done a reading update, mostly because I just haven't had much to say. I literally do nothing all day because it's too hot outside. Our AC can barely keep up. (I'm thankful that we have AC at all, because I know a lot of you outside of the US don't have air conditioning and the heatwave is killer in some parts of the world. But also you can't live in Arizona without air conditioning, period. I'm pretty sure that it's against the law to build a structure without AC, except parking garages or other things like that.)
Right now I'm in the middle of two books: Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, and Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Kawai Strong Washburn. I'm enjoying them both, but I'm liking Parable a lot more, which is ironic considering it's so much darker than the other novel. I'm reading it much faster than Sharks. I think that's because I'm not really in a literary fiction mood right now, so I'm pushing it to the side so I can focus on other books that I'm more interested in at the moment. The problems of being a mood reader, am I right?
Other than reading, I've been playing my Nintendo games a lot. I've nearly beaten Pokémon Y, I've been playing it so much. I can spend hours playing Pokémon games. That and Minecraft are really the only video games that I do play, so it's easy to get sucked in. I'm saving up for a Nintendo Switch so I can get the latest Pokémon games, and maybe some other ones that I'm intrigued by (Stardew Valley and Spiritfarer come to mind).
I've also been making some big changes to my bookstagram. I recently went to Michaels to get a bunch of props for a new theme, and I posted my first picture of the theme yesterday!
I love how pretty pink it is. It might not totally reflect me as a reader, but I'm obsessed with pink, flowery, dainty Instagram and Pinterest feeds, so I really leaned into that. I also have an Autumn theme for when the time comes, which I am super excited about. I love the idea of putting more effort into my bookstagram, since that is the only other platform I have for promoting books. I have to look into starting reels, too. I hate TikTok (it's way too addicting, I log in just to see what's new and end up doom scrolling for four hours), but I don't mind doing reels for Instagram.
Okay, I think that's all I have for today. I'm very excited for this new chapter of my book-influencing life. Can I even call it "influencing" if only ten or so people actually follow what I post? I don't know, but that's not going to stop me.
Until next time, friends!
