Book Series I Want to Start This Year
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
I'm a big series reader, I tend to prefer long series over standalone novels, especially when it's a fantasy or sci-fi series. So today I thought I would talk about some series that I'm hoping to start (and maybe even finish!) this year.
Some of these series are completed, and some are ongoing. I'll be sure to mention which is which, as well as if I own the series or not.
Okay, without any further ado, let's get into it!
The Alchemical Journeys Series by Seanan McGuire
This is a series by Seanan McGuire, the first book being Middlegame, which I own. Middlegame follows artificially created twins, Roger and Dodger, and their father/creator. Other than that, I know nothing about this book or the series. I've had Middlegame for over a year now and I still have not read it, so I'm really hoping to get to it this year, especially as the sequel Seasonal Fears is coming out later in the year.
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
This is an unfinished series, the first book being The Name of the Wind, which I own. Fun fact: The Name of the Wind is my sorority big's favorite book of all time. I had a little mass market copy for years before I unhauled it, and now I have the big floppy paperback of it. I'm holding off on buying the second book, The Wise Man's Fear, until I read the first one however. There is also a novella in this series, but we have no idea when the third book is coming out, and it's been like a decade. Real George R.R. Martin move, if you ask me, but the only thing we can do is wait.
Between Earth and Sky by Rebecca Roanhorse
This is a relatively new series, the first book Black Sun having come out last year (or 2020?). I own a copy of Black Sun but obviously I have not read it yet. This is a historical fantasy series that is based in ancient Mesoamerican mythology, I believe. I'm very excited to read it. The sequel, Fevered Star, comes out this year, and I am not sure how many books are going to be in this series.
The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
This is probably N.K. Jemisin's most popular book series, each book having consecutively won the Hugo Award the year it came out. No other book series has done that. I actually own the entire series, as it was a gift from my partner. I'm hoping to start the first book, The Fifth Season, next month. Ideally I would binge read the entire trilogy, but who knows if that will happen or not.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Ahh, Strange the Dreamer. Also known as the book I've had on my physical TBR the longest. I've had it for over four years at this point, and I still haven't read it! For shame! I also own the sequel, Muse of Nightmares, so really I have no excuses as to why I haven't picked it up yet. But this is the year, I promise!
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
This is the only book series on this list that I don't have any of the books for. I do have the first novella, All Systems Red, on hold from the library right now though, so this is the series on the list that I will be starting first. This is also the longest series on this list, with five or six books currently out. It's a little different because the first five books are novellas, and the sixth book is a full length novel, but I kind of like that they are shorter, especially since all of the other books on this list are rather large.

Well, that's the list of book series I want to start this year! Have you read any of these series? What did you think of them? Are there any book series you want to begin this year? Let me know in the comments or tweet at me @AllyEmReads.
Until next time!
