Back Home! | Reading Update 10.22.21

Hi friends, I'm back from Minnesota!

I'm finally home, after a grand total of 11 days, 8 of which were spent in the car. Personally I never want to be in a car ever again, but other than that I'm fine.

I most definitely took a nap as soon as I walked into the house.

So, I barely read during the trip. I read about 250 pages of The Burning God by R.F. Kuang the first night, and then never picked it back up. I definitely will be finishing it though, so I'll start reading it again tonight. Then about a week passed and I read absolutely nothing, before picking up Horseman by Christina Henry my last night in Minnesota. I'm over 80% of the way done with it, so I'll be finishing that within the next day or so.

On the way back to Arizona I suggested to my dad that we listen to audiobooks instead of struggling with the radio for 4 days in the car, each day about a 7 hour drive. So the first day we started The Hunger Games and we finished that the following day. I thought the narrator was super good, she had very distinct voices for each of the characters. The Hunger Games was my dad's choice, because he has been wanting to reread the series for a while.

The third day of the road trip I chose Watership Down by Richard Adams. It's an Irish classic following a warren of rabbits as they try to survive humans wanting to turn their field into a housing development. My dad read the book as a kid but I've never read it before. We got 35% of the way through the audiobook, which makes sense because it's nearly 16 hours. I really like it so far, it's honestly horrifying but so well written. I'll definitely be finishing that this month, I'm really enjoying it.

As far as Mochi goes, she did so well! I was worried about her before the trip because she's had a history of terrible motion sickness, but she didn't get sick once in the whole road trip. We started out giving her these CBD dog treats specifically for stressful situations like road trips, thunderstorms, grooming appointments, etc. By the time we were driving into Minnesota she was weaned off of them completely, and then the entire way back home we didn't give her any of them, and even managed to get her to eat along the drive. I'm so happy she's overcome her motion sickness and the anxiety of car rides! It's just one more step to helping her become an amazing service dog for me. Here are some Mochi pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Alright, I think that is it for today. I wish I read more during the trip, but honestly I barely thought about it. I really just used the time to be with family and enjoy the time with my dad especially, even though we were snapping at each other by the end of the trip. Well, spend 8 days in a confined space with someone and you're bound to get annoyed with them at some point.

Until next time!
