To California! | Reading Update 9.7.21

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

It's been almost a year since I've been to California, but thankfully no dying relatives to take care of this time. As you probably know if you're a long-time reader, I lived in California for the first 16 years of my life before I moved to Arizona, and my mom's whole family still lives there, so we like to drive out there at least once a year to see everyone. This will be a short trip, from Wednesday to Sunday. I'm hoping to get a lot of reading done, since it is a seven hour drive to my old hometown from where I live now.

I've been flying through books on my kindle (oh yeah; I've decided to start using my kindle again instead of my iPad, because the kindle app on there drains my battery like crazy). However I'm still reading the same physical book that I started on the 1st of September, so that's a little disappointing. Obviously I'm bringing my kindle with me to California, but I will also be bringing a few physical books as well, just so I have a decent amount of variety and won't back myself into a corner. I'm not sure how much reading I'll actually be doing once I'm there, because I've got plans with my old high school friends as well as family, but I'll try to sneak a little in each day.

The books I'll be bringing to California are:

The Phoenix Empress by K. Arsenault Rivera (I'm currently half-way through this one)
The Warrior Moon by K. Arsenault Rivera (this is the third book in this trilogy)
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Horns by Joe Hill

I doubt that I'll get to all of those while I'm away, but it's nice to have options. The last three are part of a secret TBR thing that I'll be doing later on in the month.

I'm also doing Sequel September this month, which is just where I'm trying to read as many sequels as I possibly can this month. I'm already reading a sequel, The Phoenix Empress, and then I'll be bringing the next book in that series to California, but these are the other sequels that I'm hoping to get to this month:

Servant of the Crown by Duncan M. Hamilton
Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell
Anna K Away by Jenny Lee
O Maidens in Your Savage Season by Mari Okada and Nao Emoto

The last one is obviously a manga, and I have five volumes left in the series, so I'm planning on reading all of them, since they only take about an hour each to read.

Aside from the two books I'm currently reading on my kindle, I don't have any holds from the library coming in, so I'm hoping that I can get to all of these books this month. This is probably the closest I've come to a TBR in months, actually. We'll see if I'm able to read all of these. You would think it would be easy since I read 24 books last month, but I'm such a mood reader that sometimes I don't want to read anything that I have on my mental TBR.

Wish me luck in reading all of these!

I'll talk to y'all next week. Until next time!
