Redoing My Room Pt. 2 | Reading Update 7.16.21

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

Well, we're here much earlier than I expected, but it's round two of redoing my room! As I said in part one of this mini-series, I want to do a somewhat complete makeover of my bedroom. Mostly, I wanted new, uniform bookshelves, and then a bunch of cosmetic stuff to make my room cohesive. Well, I'm done with my bookshelves now!

Ahhhhh look at them, they're so nice and clean! Although, apparently, my window isn't centered on my wall, so that's a little frustrating that the bookshelves don't line up with the window. But it's not like I can move my window over to the left a few inches, ha. So I'm just going to have to deal with it.

Also, can we talk about my having practically four empty shelves? I have so much more room now! I love having room for more books, it's so exciting!

Here's a close up of the shelves:

I separated them between adult and YA/middle grade. Obviously, the "adult" shelves also house my manga (I'm thinking I'll leave that shelf empty for when I get more manga volumes). As for the YA/middle-grade shelves, I want to leave that empty shelf near the bottom for when I get more middle-grade, because I'm really starting to enjoy that age-range again. I don't think I'll have a designated mystery/thriller shelf, so the Truly Devious books will probably be a part of a miscellaneous YA shelf. It's not super ideal but I don't really read a lot of that genre, so it seems silly to reserve a whole shelf for books that will probably never be there.

I also switched up the bookcase that was next to my bed: I added the removable shelves to these bookcases (as you can see, three of the four bookcases have an extra shelf) and I got a smaller, thinner bookcase to have next to my bed.

This is definitely a miscellaneous type shelf, with my altar on top. So I have journals, bibles, coffee-table books, and knickknacks on this bookcase instead, along with my witchcraft supplies. Again, it's not ideal, but there's no reason to put my regular books on this bookcase when I still have empty shelves on the big ones. Maybe once I overflow then I'll start putting regular books on this little bookcase.

(Side note: it was so weird having my salt-lamp on this side of my room last night. I wasn't used to the way the light illuminated my room, so more than once it freaked me out, ha.)

That's really it for all of the big structural changes I wanted to make for my room. All that's left is cosmetic stuff, like getting new curtains, new bedsheets, and a new reading chair. I also have a few things I want to get for my desk, as well. But that stuff will definitely have to wait until later in the year.

As for reading, last night I finished Night of the Dragon by Julie Kagawa, the third and final book in the Shadow of the Fox trilogy. I cried. Multiple times. It was such an outstanding conclusion, this series has for sure climbed its way to the top for me.

I'm either going to pick up Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, or Knight of the Silver Circle by Duncan M. Hamilton next. I mean, I'm going to read them both, I just don't know which one I will pick up first. Maybe I'll read them at the same time. I'm not sure yet.

That's all I have for this reading update. Until next time!
