FINALLY Home | Reading Update 11.12.20
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
Well, I'm finally back in Arizona with my own bed and my books. My grandfather's funeral service was sad and beautiful and I'm sure he would have complained that it lasted longer than twenty minutes, but it was appreciated how long the pastor spoke about him. He had a military send off, thanks to the active reserve Marines at Port Hueneme base coming up for him. And of course there was a lot of laughter because if there is one thing my grandpa would be remembered for (personality wise), it would be his humor.
And then the next day my parents and I made the seven hour drive back home and I never want to be in a car again.
Anyways, I finally got the chance to spend some birthday cash, and I got myself a brand new bookcase for my room. If you've seen my shelves before (which are in my "bookish" highlight on my Instagram) you would know that most of the furniture in my room is white, except for my cube bookcase, which is black. This is because I bought it for my apartment at school, which had black furniture. Of course, then I dropped out of school and so brought that bookcase back home, where it stuck out like a sore thumb for over two years. I've been meaning to either spray-paint it or replace it for forever and yesterday I did just that! I also got a larger shelf because I certainly was running out of shelf room. So, here's my new bookcase:
(Ignore the box, I had just unpacked some books I brought back from my grandparents house.)
So as you can see, I have twelve cubes instead of six, and I love it. I especially just love how my manga looks all together on the top, with my sake bottles (I got a new one while in California; my friend Pepe took me out for a birthday sushi dinner and its my tradition to get sake and then take home the bottle every time I get sushi) and now I have so much more room for books, as you can see I still have some shelf space. Which is good, especially since I've gone on two separate book buying binges and have about twenty books coming to my house soon. Plus, I definitely plan on going to my local stores in the next couple weeks. Maybe I'll do a book haul once I finish up spending all my birthday money, ha.
Okay, reading! I haven't read anything the last couple of days just because I've been unwinding from my road trip as well as unpacking, but the last book I finished was Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. And oh my god, this book is phenomenal! I loved Thomas's writing style and I can't wait to read more by them.
I haven't made any progress on A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, but that's on purpose. Just because I know this book is going to rip out my heart and stomp on it with steel-toed boots, and I don't really want that right now. But rest assured, I will finish it before the year is out. I hate leaving unfinished books on my Goodreads when the year turns over.
Speaking of, how are there only seven weeks left of 2020?! Like seriously, what the fuck?
Okay, that's all I have for today. I'll be sure to do some tags or planned posts to make up for the weeks without anything.
Until next time!
