The Slump of all Slumps | Reading Update 5.29
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
I'm sorry that I don't have a video for this week, but it's been a pretty shitty past couple of days, I'm not gonna lie. I had a week long migraine where I just...didn't want to do anything. I know I've talked about it before, as I'm very vocal about my struggle with chronic migraine and the problems that come with it, but I almost never mention when I have one until after the fact, because I just become a completely different person. I would have never described myself as apathetic, but that's definitely my personality when I have an episode. I barely sleep or eat or talk, I just tend to sit in my dark room in complete silence, or I listen to ASMR videos that were made particularly for migraine. (I love ASMR, sometimes its the only thing that relaxes me; I have YouTube playlists for sleep, migraine, anxiety, personal attention, etc.)
So, this past week has been migraine week. I'm finally feeling like a real person, after six days of lovely pain, hooray. (Also I don't want this to come off rude, but please refrain from giving me "suggestions" on how to combat migraine--I've been dealing with it since I was twelve, I have a team of doctors and neurologists working with me, and I guarantee whatever you send me, I have either already tried it, or its not something that will help.)
Anyway, obviously this week I didn't read. I managed to read a little bit of fanfic--again something I don't shy away from talking about, because there is some fanfiction out there that is just as good or better than NY bestselling novels, so. But official published work? Not really, no. I'm still about 40% of the way through The Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier, a high fantasy novel that is very good, I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the month. Last night I also started Mythos by Stephen Fry, because I was craving the familiarity that Greek mythology always brings me. I haven't yet read Mythos, but I'm about 100 pages in. The myths are how they always are, but I'm not sure I really appreciate Fry's commentary; it feels like he's trying to be witty and failing.
So those are the last two books I am hoping to read in the month of May, because I doubt I would be able to read anything else, as they are both over 400 pages and there's only two days left of the month. Wish me luck to finish!
Today I also did my bullet journal spread for June. I don't mention my bullet journal a whole lot because I'm not a super fancy artist or whatever, but I'm uncharacteristically proud of my spreads for the upcoming month. It's going to be completely centered around pride month, and celebrating the LGBT+ community. Here's a few pictures of my spreads!
Okay, I think that's all I have for this update. A bit different than my usual reading updates, so I hope y'all didn't mind the more in-depth dive into my life.
Until next time!
