Approaching Finals Week: Reading Update 12.8.19
Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!
So, at this moment, I am preparing for the final week of my first semester at ASU. I'm not gonna lie, this semester has been really, really rough. I had so many medical issues crop up and my mental health took a serious dive, so I'm really struggling to keep myself from drowning. I've barely seen my friends in months, I haven't seen my boyfriend in like six weeks, I haven't even had time to go to church because I've spent every waking moment studying my ass off for exams.
Okay, I know I'm complaining. And this isn't really what I wanted this update to be about, so sorry about that.
I haven't made any progress on The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter since my last update, but I'm honestly okay with that since I only have about 150 pages left, and we're getting into the final climax of the story, so I want to be able to devote all my attention to the last pages of this book. So, I'm going to wait until finals are over to finish it. At the moment, it's sitting at a 3.5 star for me; it's really good, it just has a few characteristics and stylistic choices that I personally am not a fan of. However, if the ending really sells me, it'll probably be bumped up to a 4 star read. It really is very good and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of epic high fantasy a la Game of Thrones.
I also started The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon last night. I got 100 pages in before I realized that it was nearly two in the morning. In short, this book is incredible so far. I think I'm really finding a love of historical fiction this year. I'm going to have to explore the genre more in the new year. I know I really want to read Ruta Sepetys (sp?) but so far she's the only one who's caught my eye when it comes to historical fiction, simply because she writes about topics that I don't know a whole lot about, like the Cuban revolution and the Spanish Civil War. Give me recs on my twitter?
Sadly, I don't think I'll be getting to Strange the Dreamer this year, unless I use that as my road trip read when I head to California for Christmas, a distinct possibility. I don't know, there are a lot of books I wanted to get to before 2020 that I don't think I will be. The woes of being a mood reader, I guess.
Well, there's still three and a half weeks before the end of the year. If I really buckle down after finals, I'm sure I can crank out plenty of books before 2020! I also want to get all of my end-of-the-year videos planned and filmed. If there's anything I love more than reading, its stats about reading. What can I say, I'm a sucker for analytics.
Okay, I think that's all I have for you guys today. Wish me luck on my finals!!
