Reading Slumps and Fic Writing: Reading Update 11.24.19

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog!

It's been about a week since I've posted and I have one reason and one reason only: reading slump.

It's so easy for me to fall into reading slumps this time of year, with finals and the holidays coming up I feel like I'm constantly on the move, being tossed from place to place. It makes sense with everything that reading takes the back-burner in life. So, because of said slump, I haven't made any progress on the two books I'm currently in the middle of (for those who need a refresher, I'm reading The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter, and Keepers of the Labyrinth by Erin E. Moulton). They're great books and I'm enjoying reading them, I'm just not enjoying reading in general at the moment.

Instead I've been engrossed in my rapidly-growing anime obsession in order to keep from going insane from all the homework and studying I have to do. I have really gone off the deep end with it: I have a blog on tumblr, a separate ani-twitter, and I even started writing my own fanfic on ao3 (no judgement please I'm fragile >.<). And yet despite this dive into all this, I haven't even wanted to pick up my unread manga volumes. It's been a struggle, I'll tell you that.

A few days ago my library was having a clear-out sale so I managed to snag a few books for like 50 cents each (I feel like I don't need to count this as breaking my book-buying ban since I only paid like two dollars). I found the first volume of the graphic novel Saga, which I love and definitely squealed at when I saw it in my peripheral vision; I also got Ruth Ware's In a Dark, Dark Wood, and Love and Other Carnivorous Plants by Florence Gonzales. I haven't read any Ruth Ware but I have been getting into the adult thriller genre lately, so I figured I would give it a shot. As for Gonzales, I remember Hannah from A Clockwork Reader on YouTube really liked this book, and we have very similar reading tastes. Fun fact, she was the first BookTuber I ever watched (I think I saw her 2018 bookshelf tour in my recommended page and then I just got sucked in from there).

Finals are in three weeks, and then I'm free for a whole month! And that month will be very busy. I'm going to California for Christmas to visit my family and all my high school friends, and then at the beginning of January I'm going to Minnesota to see the other half of my family and attend my eldest cousin's (on that side) wedding. It'll be so nice to see all of my family during the holiday season.

Over the next week I'm probably going to be pre-filming a lot of videos, as it is Thanksgiving week and I don't have any classes all week long in order to prepare for reading and finals week. And yes, I will also be studying, don't worry about that.

I think that's all I have for you guys today, so until next time!
