Reading Update 3.20.19

Hey hi hello friends, and welcome back to my blog! And, a very happy Ostara to all my witches out there!

Ostara is also known as the vernal equinox, or the first day of spring. It represents growth and new life, and is often celebrated by planting flowers, creating a garden, or baking fresh breads and pastries. Aside from Samhain, Ostara is my favorite sabbath.

Anyway, let's get into the reading update, shall we?

I'm about 500 pages into The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and only 45 pages into The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro, the third book in the Charlotte Holmes series. I finished book two, The Last of August, a few days ago. Being back home for spring break and having full access to my bookshelves makes me so happy.

I have to decide which books I'm bringing back with me to school. I'm planning on finishing both Priory and Jamie while I'm here, so I don't need to bring those back. I am for sure bringing The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, book two in the Mistborn trilogy, back with me. I've been dying to continue reading this series. Should I also bring book three, The Hero of Ages, with me as well? I'm debating on that.

I don't really have any super pressing books on my TBR currently. I'd like to read The Secret History by Donna Tarte, but is it really a priority? The books I have at school right now are Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa, The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin, and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Oh, and Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynn Jones. A part of me thinks that I don't need to bring any others up with me, that I have enough books to last me until the end of the year (especially since I don't get as much reading time while juggling school, and the books I do have are pretty hefty), but the other part of me is saying that I need to bring all the books. The struggle is real.

I'm also getting some filming done! Unfortunately I forgot my camera battery charger at school, so most of the videos are going to be filmed on my phone, which isn't bad, I just don't like the extra work that goes into that. I've already filmed two videos and edited one, which will be going up on Friday. It's my book haul for the past few months. I think I've done pretty well, I've only acquired nine books since November.

Okay, I think I will bring up The Secret History, That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E. K. Johnston, and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It's always better to have a variety, that way if you're not in the mood for a book you have other options to read.

I need to go the bookstore at some point this week and pick up book four in the Charlotte Holmes series, A Question of Holmes. But I'm pretty sure that's the only book that is relatively pressing that I need to pick up. Hang on, let me check my Goodreads...

Nope, I was wrong. I need to grab The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab as well, but that's it! The rest of the books on my wishlist are either backlist titles that I've read already and don't want to buy unless I thrift them (I'm not going to pay 15 dollars for a backlist title if I can grab it for 4, you know?) or they're unreleased books, like Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater, which comes out this fall. Although, I guess that's a bad example because I've preordered it, so technically I do own it, just not for a few months.

So, I need to buy A Question of Holmes and The Near Witch while I'm down here. It's a good thing I have a ton of Barnes and Noble coupons, hell yeah!

Okay, I think that's all I have for you guys today. Until next time!
